Experimental Typography

Experimental typography was guided by a series of biweekly prompts to kick-off our experiments. I was challenged to think outside of the computer, forced to use my hands, and to challenge traditional mediums of typography.

Inspired by the excitement of taking a wack at a piñata, the typographic Piñata is interactive and fun, and would contain surprise letterforms. I wanted to push scale and make it larger and real.
I molded letterforms from plaster filled balloons, clustering them to spell out the word huddle. The letterforms were made to be nested with one another and have dimension and physicality. To further the idea of a huddling set of letterforms, I overlaid a warmer tint to the image.
Having had my own pet rats, I decided to use them as actors, hiding treats and playing out Godzilla themes of a colossal rat problem in the Big Apple.
Neon banana. Projects took unexpected turns, like projecting onto your lunch that day.

Have a good day.
Sometimes the project was about experimenting with the programs, learning something new. I created a poster series that experimented with bitmapping.

Posters inspired by events like the first snow of the year, "look".
I wanted to spell out words by cracking open a series of eggs. Then being able to scramble your words together. Even taking it to the level of eating your words to drive the concept home.
Eric Gill was not only an excellent typographer, but also a stone mason as well. I wanted to make this 'e' from different weights and letter-forms he created. I wanted the material to speak for the concept.
